What DHMBs are
Donor Human Milk Banks (DHMBs) are facilities dedicated to screening, collection, treatment, storage, and distribution of donated human milk from eligible mothers.
Donated milk is used for specific medical indications in neonatology units, pediatric services, and, when indicated, at home.
National guidelines
Italian DHMBs refer to the Recommendations for establishing and organizing a Donor Human Milk Bank by the Italian Society of Neonatology (SIN).
The recommendations help standardize organization, management, and operational methods across existing banks, and define minimum requirements for opening new DHMBs.
